About Us

A medical practice specializing in helping patients prevent and overcome chronic diseases naturally.

Our History

Since 2013, Cleveland Nutrition has been helping patients earn back their health using plant-centered nutrition and other healthy lifestyle changes. Our unique, evidence-based program is run by David Gutman, M.D., a board-certified Internal Medicine doctor and Lifestyle Medicine specialist. He founded Cleveland Nutrition to offer motivated patients a second chance at health, teaching them how they can resolve their chronic medical diseases by using Plants As Medicine™.

The mission of Cleveland Nutrition is to support, educate, and motivate our patients to dramatically improve their quality of life through individualized, plant-centered nutrition plans and healthy lifestyle changes.

We reshape false perceptions that medical diseases are inevitable and irreversible. By demonstrating that diseases are, in fact, acquired by unhealthy choices, we empower patients to reverse them through nutritional therapy.

By helping patients restore health, eliminate medications, and normalize
weight, our physician-led medical program reduces needless suffering,
promotes longevity and saves lives.

Meet The Team

“Most chronic medical diseases and premature death in the United States are, in fact, a natural consequence of eating unnaturally, and are not due to genetics or bad luck. By helping people change their eating to a more natural, whole-food, plant-focused diet, we remove many of the underlying disease triggers and activate the body’s healing mechanisms. Weight normalizes, energy improves, pain resolves, and medications become unnecessary.”

Why Our Approach Is Plant-Focused

You might wonder why we use the term “plant-focused” rather than more familiar terms such as vegetarian, vegan, or plant-based. We prefer “plant-focused” because it better reflects the diet we recommend for our clients — which is about emphasizing eating whole, unprocessed plants, rather than avoiding anything of animal origin. If an item is labeled “vegan” or “plant-based,” that just means it does not contain any animal-derived ingredients, not that it is healthy for you. A lollipop can be vegan.

The real goal is to eliminate ultra-processed foods in favor of whole plant foods, which still contain all of the fiber, vitamins, minerals, phytochemicals, and other micronutrients that are so vital to our health. In fact, you can have a healthy, whole-food, plant-focused diet that might include a small amount of animal products. Your prescription will depend on your needs, preferences and goals, but it will include a variety of whole foods, with an emphasis on plants.
